Premo has designed with Spidcom, an important French chips and PLC applications manufacturer, a new isolation transformer for PLC (Power Line Communication) signal transmission applications. Spidcom Technologies is a fabless semi-conductor company and it is specialise in integrated circuits and Linux-based software bundles for broadband Access & In-Home networks applications over any wire (powerline, coax, phoneline). They provide integrated circuits, reference designs, evaluation kits and software to their OEM/ODM partners.
This transformer has been presented as priority the key component in one of the main standard design. Its main function is to isolate the modem of the power supplier, so that allow PLC signal transmission with very low losses for the frequency range (2-40MHz).
Key characteristics:
THT format in DIP6.
Insertion losses less than 1dB with a wide range of frequency (2-40MHz)
Galvanic isolation (1.5KV)
Very small package and low cost.
The winding method, together with the use of a ring core results in an almost perfect coupling between the primary and the secondary, allowing insertion losses near to zero, and a 25% lower than similar products in the market
This transformer has excellent results in its whole frequency work range, due to the magnetic material developed specially for this application (2-40MHz).
With this improved design, the breakage risk of magnetic core is reduced to zero during the encapsulate process or thermal stress cycles, which allows an important reduction of cost. The mechanical assembly contains a plastic base injected with insertion pines and a higher box to guarantee isolation, less risk than using overmoulded plastic or potting.
PREMO has a wide experience in manufactured of components and accessory for broadband connections (internet and video) through power suppliers. The Spanish company, sited in Andalusia Technologic Station (Málaga), is the main Spanish inductive components for inmobilizers and remote tire pressure monitoring systems manufacturer since 1998. The company, included in PREMO RFID Components brand, grows more than 20% per year and employs nearly 200 peoples who include employees, machine manufacturers and subcontracted workers.
