PREMO PLC ACCESORIES: A brief description of the PLC Technology and the range of PREMO accesories for such technology

Power Line Communications (PLC), also known as Broadband Power Line (BPL) is a broadband access technology that uses the electricity grid to provide telecommunications services It’s not a new technology. Utilities has used this technology for internal uses. Nowadays some research centers and manufacturers have developed broadband services over electricity grid. These services include: Internet access, telephony, audio and video services
The basis of the PLC technology is the superposition of a low power information signal to the power wave. In order to ensure the separation between the two systems, the signal information is modulated in a frequency very far from the one used for the power wave (50Hz in Europe).
3 to 148.5 kHz for narrowband applications
1.6 to 30 MHz for broadband applications
PLC ADVANTAGES
Uses existing infrastructure (higher potential coverage than any other access technology)
Fast, simple, modular, and selective deployment
In-house installation is fast and simple
Investment and operational cost: similar to xDSL and lower than cable services
Transmision rates equivalent to or better than other access technologies (up to 200 Mbps in the last generation devices)
Every conventional socket becomes a connection point to the telecom network
Lower deployment cost in developing countries where the penetration of other access technologies is low

PREMO PLC accesories are recommended by DS2. DS2 manufactures the most advanced PLC chipset, that allows PLC hardware achieves baud rates up to 200 Mbps. DS2 first generation chipset: 45 Mpbs DS2 second generation chipset: 200 Mbps Main manufactures and utilities uses the DS2 PLC chipset, PLC network architecture and frequency bands.
